The Team was contacted by Cumbria Police with a report of two cold, wet males who, due to a combination of the time of day that they started walking and limited hours of daylight, had failed to reach their objective (Priest’s Hole on Dove Crag).

In very wet and windy conditions, with the possibility of snow later, they decided to camp. Their location was established using PhoneFind and a rescue party was sent to assist the campers back to safety.

The Team was alerted to a lone walker stranded in the dark on Striding Edge. Conditions were wintery and as he did not have a torch, he was unsure about continuing. Initially the police called out Keswick MRT who spoke to the young walker over the phone and established his exact location.

As he was parked at Glenridding they passed the job to PMRT. The young man wasn’t injured so just required assistance of the three Team Members who had been tasked with bringing him off the fell. As the rescuers approached the Hole in the Wall, just before Striding Edge, they met the walker who had managed to traverse the ridge.

He was assisted from the fell.

The police relayed a message from a member of a group who had been walking over Helvellyn an hour previously and seen someone struggling to pitch their tent near the summit of Dollywagon Pike. The good Samaritan had suggested to the camper that they could walk with them off the fell, but the offer was declined.

An hour later, the camper called the leader of the group to seek their advice. However, by this time the group were some distance away and on their way off the fell. A small team of rescuers was sent to the very windy summit of Dollywaggon Pike, where they met the camper and supported him to walk safely off the fell.

The Fire Service requested the Team’s assistance to recover a driver who was trapped in their car after it had slipped off the track into a ditch. The Team was stood down before reaching the scene.

After seeing a post on social media, a group of four young men had set off from Glenridding late evening with the intention of camping on Sheffield Pike to watch the sunset. In rain and strong winds, the climb took longer than expected. The Duty Leader contacted the group and established that they were sheltering but wet and cold as they were unable to erect their tent.

A PhoneFind confirmed their location. They were advised to make a shelter and get into their sleeping bags. Warmer and in better spirits, the group agreed to stay as they were until morning when the forecast was to be better, and they would be able to walk down safely unaided.

The Team was asked to provide advice to a male who had been wild camping at Red Tarn. The camper and his kit were soaking wet so he was advised to pack his belongings and make his way down the fell. It was expected that he would warm- up once he started moving.

However, the weather deteriorated further and as the Team was unable to make contact a small party of rescuers was despatched to meet the male. Tracking, via his phone, confirmed he was walking in the right direction. The very wet and cold male was met by the rescuers and escorted back to the Base where he was given hot drinks and his kit dried out.

Arrangements were made for him to stay overnight at the Youth Hostel.

A group of four teenaged boys had been camping at Angle Tarn when the weather deteriorated, and their tent’s flysheet blew away. The group called for help. Two of the boys remained with their tent while the other two decided to walk back to Hartsop.

The group was reunited with their parents at the Rescue Base.

The Team was alerted to two walkers who had been intending to camp at Angle Tarn but had broken their tent pole. They were about 200 metres above the valley floor so, as they were adequately equipped, the Team tried to persuade them that they were safe and could wait until they could see their way down at first light.

However, they recontacted the police for help so a small party was dispatched to escort them to the valley floor.

Cumbria Police tasked the Team to go to the aid of a 19 year old male who had misplaced his tent while wild camping on the fells above Ullswater. At dusk, the young man had wandered away from his campsite and when darkness fell he was unable to locate his tent.

Two Team Members went to the young man’s assistance and quickly reunited him with his accommodation.

LAMRT had responded to a couple in difficulties on the high fells. Due to the appalling weather, LAMRT chose to descend north onto Patterdale’s patch. Patterdale MRT was requested to assist but was stood down as they mobilised.
