Three Stranded Paddleboarders on Ullswater

On Saturday 19th September at 13:32hrs Cumbria Police alerted the Team to 3 Paddle boarders who were in difficulty on Ullswater and needed assistance.
As Patterdale were hosting the Lake District Mountain Rescue Games they had asked Penrith Mountain Rescue to cover for them.
Due to the nature of the incident and needing to use Patterdale's Rescue Rib two members of Patterdale left the Games and headed to the incident whilst Penrith Team were travelling.
On arrival at the area Two of the Paddle Boarders were on the lake shore on the rocks on the East side of the lake with a third one further down the shore.
All three were helped on board the Rescue Rib and conveyed across the Lake back to Glencoyne Bay where they had set off from. They were handed over to Cumbria Fire service and North West Ambulance service to be checked over as they were wet and cold. Fortunately all three were wearing wetsuits and buoyancy aids , the conditions at the time were very challenging with high winds and waves 4/5ft high once out of the bay area.
The Team would like to remind anyone using the lake that conditions can change in minutes and can be very different once out on the lake and away from the sides. Please wear the correct safety equipment and look at the weather conditions before heading out.
