Whilst Team members were busy at Aira Force on Easter Sunday, raising awareness of what the team do and selling tickets for our Infamous, Easter Monday Duck Race, a member of the public had ran from above the waterfalls to alert us of a woman who had fallen injuring her lower Leg.
Two Patterdale team members and a passing member of the Penrith Mountain Recue Team who , took kit from the vehicle and were quickly on scene.
The rest of the team were called out and began making their way to the scene.
The woman was assessed and treated by one of our teams Remote Rescue Medical Technicians, her leg was splinted and she was then taken by stretcher to a team Land Rover and re assessed by a team doctor and transported to her partners vehicle, who chose to drive her to the hospital.
The team are very grateful to the National Trust for allowing us to fundraise at Aira Force and help us raise awareness of the work we do.
This rescue took 2 hours and 13 Team members were involved.

At 4:25pm on Friday 11th April, North West Ambulance service tasked PMRT to an incident at Aira Force where a young lady had fallen and sustained a minor head wound.
Upon arriving at the scene a Team doctor treated the young woman and accompanied by several Team members, they were able to escort the casualty back to her vehicle where one of her friends drove her to Penrith minor injuries unit for further care.
This incident involved 12 Team members and lasted for just 1 hour

On 5/4/2025 Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team were contacted by Cumbria Police at 14.17 with a report of a female with a possible broken ankle at Hayeswater dam.The walker slipped whilst crossing the stream sustaining a painful injury to her lower leg. The team were called out and managed to drive to scene using the old reservoir track. The casualty was treated on scene initially by the team medics before being transported back to base, for onward treatment with North West Ambulance service.
The callout lasted 3 hours with 15 team members

On Thursday 3rd April at 11:45hrs the Team were tasked by Cumbria police to a male who had fallen whilst descending Great Mell Fell and had injured his leg.  The Team Landrover accessed to the scene through Mell Fell Wood and after a short walk were with the casualty, he was assessed and due to the injury his lower leg was placed in a splint, he was sledged off the hill by stretcher to the Landrover. The male was then transported a short distance to his vehicle and he was taken to hospital for further treatment by his partner.  Seven Team Members attended the incident which took just over two hours to complete.  The Team would like to thank Rookin House Equestrian Centre for allowing us to access through their wood to reach the casualty quickly ,we also wish the casualty a swift recovery.

At 13:25 on Thursday 5th March Cumbria Police alerted Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team to incident involving a man who had tripped and fallen several times during his walk and was now unable to continue.  Mobile phone communications with the casualty's party were very poor, and the initial GPS location of the casualty site had an accuracy of +/- 6km!  It rapidly emerged that the incident was in fact close to Castle Crag in Borrowdale and the rescue was passed over to Keswick MRT.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team Rescues Injured Fell Walker on Bonscale Tower
Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team (PMRT) responded to a call for assistance on Bondale Fell after a 53-year-old male was discovered with a suspected lower limb injury.
The injured walker was initially found by a PMRT member who was out on a run. Upon assessment by multiple team members, it was determined that the individual required immediate medical attention.
The team provided on-site care, including splinting the injured leg and administering strong analgesia to alleviate pain. The casualty was then carefully stretchered down the fell to a waiting Land Rover.
The Land Rover transported the injured man to Pooley Bridge, where the team met a pre-arranged ambulance for onward care.
The rescue operation, which lasted approximately three hours, involved 15 dedicated PMRT members.
A spokesperson for Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team stated, “We are pleased that we were able to assist the injured walker and ensure he received prompt medical attention. Our team members are always prepared to respond to emergencies in the fells, and we are grateful for their dedication and expertise.”

On Monday 3rd February at 16.22 hrs the Team were called by Cumbria Police to assist Two Female Walkers  who had reported themselves stuck somewhere on Striding Edge. The Duty Leader contacted the two and confirmed by Phone Find that they were on the steep climb heading up to Helvellyn Summit from Striding Edge.  On speaking to them it was established that they had crossed the ridge after walking up earlier in the day, setting off from Glenridding, they were now in low cloud with deteriorating weather. As there were no injuries it was decided they would head back down and traverse across Striding Edge retracing their steps before it got dark and to relative safety as they had no torches with them.   The Duty Leader initiated a Limited call out to head up to meet the Two casualties and 6 Team Members met at base to then head up to Red Tarn Outlet where they had been instructed to head towards. Track My Location on WhatsApp showed the two casualties to be making good progress along Striding Edge as the Team set off from Greenside. On  getting to Red Tarn Outlet the weather was worsening rapidly with rain and strong winds , the Leader contacted the Two as they were not at the outlet and he pinpointed them to be near Birkhouse Moor heading towards Mires Beck as they had carried on following the wall down to keep warm in the bad weather. Once the Team caught up to them they were given warm jackets and torches and walked off down Mires Beck to the Team Land-rovers. Everyone headed back to Patterdale Base to get warm drinks before the two Females headed off to their accommodation. Seven Team members were involved in the Rescue which lasted around 3 hours in total.

At 2pm on Wednesday 8th January, Cumbria Police tasked PMRT to an incident on Birkhouse Moor where a young man had fallen in deep snow and sustained a suspected dislocation of his shoulder.
A Team doctor who happened to be on Helvellyn at the time was able to get to the injured man quickly and gave initial care while the rest of the Team assembled and made their way to the scene.
Once treated and packaged the man was stretched down to Glenridding where colleagues were able to transport him onward to further care.

This incident involved 10 Team members and lasted 6 hours

At the 13:05hrs on Friday 3rd January the Team were tasked by Cumbria Police to assist a Female who had slipped on a path in Aira Force and hurt her leg.  The Team were called out by the Duty Leader and made their way to the National Trust car park where the Rescue land-rovers had travelled to from Patterdale Base. After a short walk the Team were quickly with the casualty , she was examined and treated for an ankle injury.  Once her leg had been splinted she was placed onto a stretcher and carried down to the car park where her partner conveyed her to Hospital for further treatment .  13 Team members were involved in the rescue which took just under two hours to complete.

On Thursday 2nd January at 13:35hrs the Team received their first request for assistance for the new year.  Cumbria Police had received a request for a Female who had received a leg injury after she slipped on icy ground whilst descending Glenridding Dodd, due to the nature of the injury she could not walk any further. The call initially went to Keswick Team who passed it over to Patterdale instantly as they realised it wasn’t in their area.  The Duty Leader made contact with the casualty and established the exact location and extent of injury and called the Team out.  Once at scene the Female was given strong Analgesia ,her leg was splinted and she was placed onto a stretcher in a warm casualty bag to keep warm. Due to the extent of the injury after being examined by the Team Doctor a request was made for air support to enable a swift smooth extraction to hospital. Helimed 58 from the Great North Air Ambulance were quickly on scene , the casualty was stretchered a short distance to the Helicopter ,once loaded into the Air Ambulance she was then flown to Hospital for further treatment to the injury.  9 Team members were involved in the Rescue which took 2 hours 45 minutes to complete.
