Cumbria Police tasked the Team to attena a young man who had slipped on a loose section of the balcony path and fallen down the bank sustaining a debilitating lower leg injury. The Team assessed the injury, gave pain relief and splinted his lower leg prior to stretchering from the fell.

NWAS requested the Team to go to the assistance of a male who had slipped at Aira Force and sustained an injury to his ankle. Despite a hasty search the casualty could not be found. Phone contact was made and the casualty informed the Team that he had crawled back to his vehicle and was on his way to hospital.

NWAS requested the help of the Team to go to the aid of a walker who had been making her way off the fell when she slipped on the loose stones and heard a cracking noise. The Team met at Dockray and two vehicles made their way onto the fell.

The Team Doctor assessed her – pain relief was provided and the leg splinted before she was stretchered to a Team vehicle then a waiting ambulance.

Cumbria Police tasked the Team to an incident near the summit of Helvellyn. A 31 year old had sustained an ankle injury after being hit by a falling rock. Approximately 90 minutes following receipt of the call-out the Team administered pain relief to the casualty and splinted his ankle.

He was placed on a stretcher for the long descent back to the valley bottom and subsequent transfer by Land Rover to the Team’s Base. The casualty’s friends transported him to hospital for further treatment.

The Team was called to assist a woman in her twenties, who had slipped and injured her ankle while walking at Aira Force. The casualty was located below Gowbarrow, 100 metres above High Force waterfall. The casualty’s ankle was splinted before she was lifted onto a stretcher and carried to the car park.

Since the couple were staying in North Lancashire she was assisted into her own car to be taken to Westmorland General Hospital by her partner.

Following receipt of a 999 call from a Penrith MRT Member and three colleagues, reporting a young male with an injured ankle on St Sunday Crag, Cumbria Police tasked the Team to assist. The Team made the steep ascent from the Grisedale Valley to provide pain relief and stabilise the ankle before stretchering the casualty from the fell.

Following a report that a female walker had fallen off a cliff and sustained back / shoulder injuries, NWAS called for the Team’s assistance. The couple had been walking a route over Sheffield Pike and Heron Pike and lost the path so found themselves on steep, rocky terrain.

The casualty reported that her foot had given way and that she had fallen 10-15 metres and sustained a nasty laceration to her shoulder. She was given pain relief, and the injury was treated at the scene. The casualty was lowered on a stretcher to the road where she was transferred to a land ambulance.

NWAS requested the Team’s help in attending a female who had slipped. She was in a lot of pain and had a suspected ankle fracture. The injury was treated and stabilised with a lower leg splint. The casualty was then transferred by stretcher to a Team Land Rover, thence to the road where she was handed over to a land ambulance for onward travel to hospital.

NWAS reported an incident involving a 78 year old female who had taken a stumbling fall above Silver Point, thereby sustaining an arm injury and facial lacerations. A Team Doctor assessed the casualty’s injuries before treating her and splinting her arm.

She was then stretchered from scene before both she and her companion were transported back to Glenridding in the Team’s Land Rovers. Once cleaned up, the couple made their own way to Penrith Community Hospital’s minor injuries unit for further treatment.

Cumbria Police tasked the Team to an incident on a section of Striding Edge, known as the Bad Step. Initial reports suggested that a 27 year old man from Hull had lost his footing on the ridge, fallen a short distance and then slid further down the fell.

He was reported to have broken his leg. The casualty was examined by Team Doctors, who suspected a fracture with the possibility of other injuries consistent with a tumbling fall. Due to his condition, the location and the time needed for an evacuation on foot, the assistance of a SAR helicopter was requestea. However, due to a deterioration in the weather, the casualty had to be stretchered down to the main track from Greenside, which was below the cloud base, so transfer to a helicopter was possible.

The casualty was flown to the CIC for treatment.
