The Team received a report from a concerned resident of lights on Arthur’s Pike. The Duty Leader contacted the informant and after a discussion it was concluded that the lights were likely those of a wild camper and the Team was stood down.

A walker reported hearing shouts for help between High Street and Hayeswater. The Team was placed on standby while the Duty Leader contacted the informant. Enquiries were made of the local farmer who had been gathering his flock from the fell for shearing.

As no further reports had been received the Team was stood down.

The police passed reports of a paraglider crash-landing somewhere near Patterdale, having taken-off from the summit of Place Fell. The Paraglider had been witnessed to possibly lose control then plummet to the ground. The search area was quite extensive so the assistance of a helicopter from HMCG was requested but proved negative.

While Team Members were still at Base repacking kit employed on the previous callout, the paraglider called-in and explained that he had been speed flying.

Cumbria Police contacted the Team to report that a member of the public (a former Team Member), who had walked from Howtown to Patterdale, was concerned for the wellbeing of two females that he had passed. A limited call-out was initiated to investigate.

The Rescue RIB was launched to enable a rapid search of most of the shore path while one Team Member ran the section of the path which was hidden from view. No sightings were made of the two females who, evidently, had managed to finish their walk.

Cumbria Police received a call from a parent who was concerned when their 21 year old did not make their final check-in of the day. Team Members were divided into three search parties across three valleys. A hasty team was sent to the intended campsite (Grisedale Tarn) where they located the walker safe and well in his tent.

The young person was left to enjoy their evening. The parent was relieved and very grateful to hear the good news.

Cumbria Police asked the team to assist two students who had reported themselves lost in low cloud on the summit of Helvellyn. The Duty Leader attempted to persuade the couple to walk off under his direction. When they declined, two Team Members were deployed to climb the fell and guide the pair down via Lower Man and Whiteside Bank.

LAMRT, via Cumbria Police, requested the Team’s help in the search for a vulnerable young person who was missing in the area of Kirkstone Pass. There had been a few unconfirmed sightings in the valley. As Team Members were making their way to Base they spotted the missing person and transported him to the Rescue Base where he was reunited with his parents.

While the Team was training in the Ullswater Valley they received a report from Cumbria Police of a walker seeking advice having lost their way on Hallin Fell. The walker had left the path to take a direct route to the summit and become disoriented in high bracken.

Using PhoneFind, the Team was able to guide the walker down to the shore path from where they were able to complete the rest of their walk.

The Team had just got to the summit of Helvellyn, on the first job of the afternoon, when the police alerted them to a walker who had become lost in low cloud on Stybarrow Dodd. As resources were at our Base, these were despatched to Dowthwaite Head, in a Team Land Rover, to locate the lost person using the PhoneFind system.

The walker was located and walked off the fell.

The police alerted the Team to a report of flashing lights on the fell. A conversation was held with the reporting person and a Land Rover was driven along the fellside road, but nothing further was seen. In the absence of any report of overdue persons or other more specific information, no further action was taken.
