Gill Crag Dovedale
Grid reference: NY 38520 11560
Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team were contacted on the Tuesday 24th September 2024 by Cumbria Police at 11:30 am.
A concerned walker had reported hearing a dog making unusual barking noises on Gill Crag in Dovedale, the dog hadn't changed location in some time and the walker had became concerned that perhaps it had lost its owner or was in harm.
One of the Team Deputies spoke with some of the local farmers and became aware that the local Kennels had been exercising their trail hounds in the area.
Another team member newly qualified as a drone pilot was keen to use the team drone to conduct a search of the area to ensure no one or any animal was in harm.
A small team was sent up the track at Dovedale and spent 2 hours searching the area with the drone.
Once we were sure no one or any domestic animals were in the area, we stood down.
Congratulations to our Team member on qualifying as a pilot and allowing us to have a great resource to help on searches and rescues.
Our new drone officer is part of a team trained in the Lake District as part of LDSAMRA
