On Sunday 5th September Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team were tasked by Cumbria Police and Ambulance Control to go to the assistance a women near the summit of Place Fell. The 39 year old woman, from Weatherby, had slipped and injured her ankle.
Thirteen members of Patterdale team ascended Place fell from the Ullswater valley. On reaching the casualty site, the woman was examined by team members and treated for a suspected fracture to her ankle. The casualty was then placed in a stretcher and evacuated down into the Boredale valley. Six members of Penrith Mountain rescue team met up with the stretcher party during the evacuation and assisted with the carry. On reaching the valley bottom, the casualty was taken by team ambulance to meet a county ambulance in Pooley Bridge. The complete rescue took four and a half hours.
