First Rescue of 2008 for Patterdale Mountain Rescue

On 2nd January the Police requested The Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team to attend an incident on Helvellyn. A 17year old male from Whitley Bay had slipped on the path whilst descending from Swirral Edge to Red Tarn.

On arriving at scene, the man was diagnosed with a suspected fractured to his right lower leg. He was given pain relief and his leg was splinted. Due to possible medical complications the man was airlifted to Cumberland Infirmary by helicopter from RAF Boulmer.

Twenty-two members from Patterdale and Penrith Mountain Rescue Teams attended the incident.
