Cragfast climbers rescued

Following a call from the police, Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team were called to assist two cragfast climbers on Hellvelyn.

The two climbers, from West Yorkshire, were climbing up a gully on Hellvelyn when they became stuck. The two were climbing in winter conditions but reached a point where they could neither ascend or descend.

After some searching, the two climbers were eventually located and team members ascended up a snow gully to their location. One of the pair was lowered down the face to easier ground while the other ascended and was brought off the hill via Swirral edge.

The 15 members of Patterdale team who attended the incident were assisted by a couple of members of Penrith Mountain rescue team who happened to be in the area. The team were also assisted by a RAF Sea King.
