Gowbarrow Path from Gowbarrow summit to Dockray
06/07/2008
On Sunday 6th July 2008 at 17.03 Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team were called by Cumbria Police to search for a 17yr old girl from the Eden Valley who had been walking with her mother on Gowbarrow Park above Ullswater and Aira Force. They had become separated on the summit plateau at about 14.00. The mother had searched in vain and had returned to her car in Watermillock and called the police.

As the team were in the initial stages of setting up a search on Gowbarrow Park the girl was located uninjured making her own way off the fell. Though cold, wet and a little frightened she had acted very sensibly and retraced her steps knowing where the path led.

This area is a very difficult one for mobile phone reception and in this case though the team leader tried the number on many occasions there was no service
